Finnish ‘Airbnb for cars’ is crowdfunding to support fast growth and international expansion

Blox Car, the Finnish peer-to-peer car sharing service, has seen rapid growth in its home market in the last year. Now the startup, which enables ordinary people to list and borrow cars, is looking for investment via the international crowdfunding platform, FundedByMe.

 Blox Car is the only peer-to-peer service that operates throughout Finland and in all the major cities and it has attracted headline-grabbing attention for its affordability and celebrity endorsements. The vehicle-sharing startup, founded by entrepreneur Paul Nyberg, won Slush’s award last year for the best service supporting sustainable development in Finland. 

Headquartered in Helsinki, Blox Car has 11,000 users and 800 registered cars, out of which 100 cars can be rented instantly. Now the Nordic mobility-as-a-service startup wants to expand speedily in Finland and overseas and has started a crowdfunding campaign to support their attractive vision. Blox Car’s target is to raise 500,000 euros and for as little as 500 euros anyone can buy a piece of the company and help drive it forward. 

“Studies have shown that younger generations are not interested in owning cars and freedom to move is seen as more important than ownership. There are several car sharing service in the world, but none that are global and none as successful as us in Finland. We want to be the first one that makes it possible to rent a peer-to-peer car with a single login on different continents,” says CEO, Paul Nyberg.

Blox Car is not thinking of conquering the world alone. The globalisation of the peer-to-peer service is made possible through cooperation between international digital marketplaces and other mobility services. Blox Car, produced by Shareit.global Oy, and the aim is to collect several mobility services behind one user interface.   

With the funds raised in the crowdfunding the internationalisation will be started in the Northern and Middle European markets. The company has in about month raised about 160,000 euros on the crowdfunding platform FundedByMe.

“Would you have invested in Airbnb 10 years ago if you’d known how it would change the market? The same change is now happening in the sharing and circular economy of mobility and ordinary people have the chance to be a part of this success story,” Nyberg says.

The crowdfunding campaign is open until the 12th of August.
