Finnish Pavilion Showcases Sustainable Manufacturing Expertise at Major 3D Printing Event in Germany

DIMECC Oy
31.10.2024, 11:02

The Finnish Pavilion will highlight sustainable manufacturing expertise at Formnext, the international additive manufacturing trade fair in Frankfurt this November. The pavilion is organized by the FAME Ecosystem, which promotes the adoption of additive manufacturing and brings together experts across the entire 3D printing value chain from equipment and material manufacturers to design, testing, and industrial application.

In addition to FAME, exhibitors in the Finnish Pavilion include VTT, Brinter AM Technologies (focused on bioprinting), Materflow (metal and plastic printing services), Delva (metal printing services), and the 3DTY project, which specializes in large-scale 3D printing and will showcase this expertise with 3D-printed furniture on display.

"We participated in the Nordic Pavilion last year, which inspired us to set up a dedicated Finnish Pavilion this year. Collaborating allows us to gain more visibility and effectively showcase Finland’s capabilities," explains Eetu Holstein, Senior Ecosystem Lead at DIMECC Oy.

The Finnish Pavilion emphasizes sustainable manufacturing, showcasing case studies from companies like Wärtsilä and Valmet that compare the carbon emissions of 3D-printed vs. traditionally manufactured components. Many pavilion furnishings are 3D-printed using sustainable materials from Finnish providers. Materials include Brightplus, which combines biopolymers with refined industrial by-products for a more eco-friendly alternative; Sulapac, which blends recycled wood fibers with biodegradable biopolymers; and UPM Formi, made from pure polymers and certified pulp.

Dr. Sini Metsä-Kortelainen from FAME will discuss the importance of sustainability in additive manufacturing, presenting company case studies on the Industry Stage in Hall 11.0 on Thursday, November 21.

Additionally, FAME will launch its Sustainable Additive Manufacturing Handbook at the event.

Formnext will feature a wide range of Finnish expertise, with companies such as 3DFormtech, Minifactory, DeskArtes, and Select AM also exhibiting. HT Laser and SSAB will present their collaboration on carbon-neutral steel powder, while other stands will display Finnish OEMs’ work. German company EOS, which conducts material and process development in Finland, will also have a significant presence at the fair.
