The future of Enontekiö Airport in Finnish Lapland is currently being built. The airport is scheduled to move from Finavia to the Enontekiö municipal group in mid-July 2021. The municipality of Enontekiö has established two subsidiaries to take care of the initial phase of operations.

ENF Infra Ltd. acts as a buyer in the real estate transaction and manages the airport infrastructure. ENF POP Ltd, on the other hand, is a development company that will write the next chapter on the future of the airport. The most important initial task is to launch the operation and secure the coming season. In addition, ENF POP Ltd. is actively looking for private partners to participate in the airport's operations.

The boards of the companies got acquainted with the airport's operations on Friday, March 26, 2021, together with the municipality's preparers. In the coming years, EUR 5 million will be invested in the airport with the help of state aid allocated to Enontekiö by the Ministry of Employment and the Economy mainly for the renewal of the runway and associated equipment. These investments will give the runway a service life of at least 15 years, but more likely to be about 20 years. This enables operations to continue at the current service level.

Seppo Alatörmänen, Chairman of the Board of ENF Infra Ltd, outlines the future: "We believe in the growth of health-safe experience tourism in Enontekiö. The airport enables entrepreneurs with international growth potential, which can be used to invest in future needs"

Hanne Junnilainen will be the airport's responsible director in preparation for the operation until the CEO for the companies has been elected. The airport is scheduled to move from Finavia to the Enontekiö municipal group in mid-July 2021. Until now, Finavia has been operating the airport. The companies are currently preparing key recruitments. There will also be a recruitment day in the spring, which will be announced in more detail later.
