West Ham United FC focus strongly on breathing – new unique collaboration with WellO2 breathing trainer
15.2.2024 | WellO2 Oy | www.wello2.com
WellO2, the innovative Finnish company, are thrilled to announce an unprecedented partnership with West Ham United marking a pioneering step in the English Premier League as we become the club's first Official Respiratory Supplier.
Respiratory issues are becoming more common due to allergies, pollution and illness. Currently, over 500 million people around the world suffer from long-term respiratory issues and according to WHO 90% of the world’s population breathe polluted air.[1] Even ultra-fit people are affected. A study from year 2018 [2] also revealed that amongst top athletes, breathing problems are very common – for example, 3 in 10 elite footballers screened from top clubs across England, have exercise induced asthma (EIA). The condition was previously undiagnosed and could have impaired their on-field performance.
WellO2 has developed a revolutionary breathing device that integrates steam breathing with resistance training for strengthening the respiratory muscles. Since launching in 2016, WellO2 has gained over 100,000 active users worldwide, proving to be a highly effective, drug-free solution for maintaining and improving respiratory health.
This partnership with West Ham United introduces our acclaimed and clinically validated technology to the UK market, leveraging this significant platform to highlight the device's extensive benefits. From boosting professional athletes' performance to aiding the general public with common respiratory challenges, including asthma, acute chest infections, inflammations, and recovery from illnesses like Covid-19, WellO2 is at the forefront of respiratory health innovation in the world.
Richard Collinge, Performance Director at West Ham United commented the partnership as follows:
"We look forward to working with the team at WellO2. The importance of effective breathing techniques and maximizing lung capacity when playing football cannot be understated. In working with WellO2 we are excited to explore how to best implement the WellO2 devices into the strength and conditioning program for our players.
We are always open to new and innovative ways to generate improvements in player performance, and we see the relationship with WellO2 as another valuable asset in supporting the team."
Tuomas Mattelmäki, CEO of WellO2, expressed his excitement about the collaboration:
"The focus on respiratory health has gained considerable momentum in recent years. Starting as a respiratory supplier with West Ham United is a milestone achievement for WellO2 and we're excited about the potential this partnership holds for promoting respiratory well-being among athletes and the wider community. West Ham United's approach to health and performance aligns perfectly with our mission, and we're eager to see the positive impacts of our collaboration.
“According to a recently published study [3] only 5-15 minutes of daily exercise with WellO2 can produce significant improvements in lung function and alleviate several breathing related symptoms like coughing, dyspnoea, mucus accumulation and voice hoarseness. Some patients also managed to decrease their short-term pulmonary medication during the study, Respiratory muscle strength can improve by 10-20% in as little as one month, in different user groups, from asthmatics to top athletes.”, Mattelmäki adds.
Commenting on the partnership, Chief Commercial Officer at West Ham United, Nathan Thompson stated:
"We are delighted to be working with WellO2 to promote respiratory health among our loyal fan base. This partnership signifies our dedication to supporting our fans not only in their passion for football but also in the pursuit of a healthier lifestyle.”
As WellO2 embarks on this journey with West Ham United, we look forward to the opportunities this partnership brings for advancing respiratory health initiatives and fostering a healthier, more active community. Together, we are set to inspire and empower individuals to take charge of their respiratory health, achieving their fullest potential in all walks of life.

The project portfolio was introduced at the University of Vaasa last year. It was expected to increase transparency and support reporting and knowledge management. “Data-driven portfolio management has not been possible before because the information has been fragmented and reliant on people’s recollection,” says Tapio Männistö from the University of Vaasa’s Finance and Project Management Services.
The development journey of portfolio management has been a smooth one. Today, data is in one place in a quantifiable and comparable format. According to Tapio, the conditions have been fruitful and knowledge-based management has progressed. The timeliness of data is therefore much in the spotlight. “The ambition has been to record data as it is produced, so that it is always up-to-date and valid,” says Tapio. ” We are moving from looking in a foggy looking rear-view mirror and starting to look ahead so that we can also see trend curves.”
The project portfolio was developed on top of an Excel-based solution. Tapio found that you can go into the first definition workshops quite casually, and you don’t need to have the answers ready. “There was nothing to compare it with when it came to creating a completely new system and function chain around the software,” says Tapio. On the other hand, it was also nice not to have to unlearn from the old application.
The portfolio was implemented last year and the first year has been all about developing project management. It was important to start with small enough steps. “We realised that we needed to focus on project management and data creation first in order to manage the whole portfolio,” says Tapio. The idea is that the next year the focus will be on portfolio management and developing digitalisation and knowledge management.
Tapio has found that understanding why data is collected helps to see how it genuinely brings value to the end user. In his opinion, the great moments in the development process have been when people have suddenly understood what the portfolio can be used for. “For example, the ability to see dependencies, log tasks within projects and export information directly to emails has added value for users.”
Dialogues have been an important part of change management. “It’s important to be able to justify why something is being done and why it’s worth producing data,” says Tapio. He thinks that making guidelines, videos and training sessions is fun, and there should be some. However, if no one watches the video or attends the training, they will not get the desired benefits. “You reach the target audience by actually meeting people,” says Tapio.
In addition to the successes, the journey has provided good lessons for the future. The biggest challenge on the development journey has been that change agency is largely the responsibility of one person. In hindsight, Tapio thinks that the roll-out could have gone even more smoothly if there had been more responsibility at the unit level of the organisation.
The project portfolio has helped with reporting and management has also benefited from the knowledge collected in the portfolio. The data generated in different units can now be compared thanks to the quantitative format. Another important benefit is the ability to budget resources using the portfolio. The portfolio has made it possible to determine how much staff is allocated to projects versus line work.
The portfolio allows access to information in real time rather than reacting after the fact. “It’s great to think that information is in one place, rather than having to search through people’s heads and email files,” says Tapio. The aim is that in the future, as much information as possible will also be generated automatically.
Working with Thinking Portfolio has been easy and straightforward. Tapio says that discussions have gone well and changes have happened quickly: “The whole delivery chain has been smooth and agile, and we have been well understood.” The Project Portfolio app has also received positive feedback from users: “The software is easy to use and intuitive, it works logically.”

The second largest industrial subcontracting trade fair in Europe, and the largest industrial trade fair in Finland, Alihankinta and AlihankintaHEAT will be organized at Tampere Exhibition and Sports Centre on 27–29th September 2022. The theme of the event will be Industry Appeal, Needs and Experts. The exhibition stands for this autumn's Alihankinta Subcontracting Trade Fair have been sold out, which means that approximately 1,000 exhibitors will attend this international event covering all exhibition halls of the Tampere Exhibition and Sports Centre. The Subcontracting Trade Fair 2022 partner for Alihankinta is Wärtsilä Finland Oy.
After two years of exceptional circumstances, everyone is looking forward to Alihankinta and AlihankintaHEAT 2022 with special enthusiasm. The event will be tightly structured around current themes, meaningful encounters and latest solutions.
– This autumn looks bright, and we are looking forward to having the fair. Pandemic times may have changed many practices, but people's need for face-to-face encounters has not stopped. This is why so many still attend trade fairs and other events; just look at Alihankinta that has been sold out. In addition to pre-booked appointments, live events enable random encounters and unexpected collaboration opportunities. This is not possible via Teams, for example. Of course, being together is an important value in and of itself. Our goal is to make this autumn's Alihankinta and AlihankintaHEAT event a place for meaningful encounters and a three-day industrial festival, where the famous positive subcontracting spirit of Tampere is ever-present, says Tanja Järvensivu, PR and Partnership Director of Tampere Trade Fairs Group and Project Manager for Alihankinta.
Industry Appeal, Needs and Experts as event theme – Wärtsilä Finland Oy as the Subcontracting Trade Fair partner
The theme of Alihankinta and AlihankintaHEAT 2022 will be Industry Appeal, Needs and Experts. The theme will showcase the current and future needs and prospects of industry on a broad scale. Debate-arousing perspectives include the appeal of industry and how to attract skilled workers, the importance of a new kind of cooperation, and challenges and changes arising from the volatile global situation.
On Tuesday 27th Sept, the programme will focus on the theme "Industry Appeal, Needs and Experts". The first day's programme includes the awarding of Subcontractor of the Year and Main Supplier of the Year by Finnish Association of Purchasing and Logistics LOGY. On Wednesday 28th Sept, the programme is titled "Industry Future and Current Challenges", discussing e.g., the effects of the Ukraine crisis, industrial supply shortages, cybersecurity and preparedness, and future changes in industry. Thursday 29th Sept will be "Shapers of the Future Thursday", with a content that highlights the appeal of industry, relevant topics for youth and students, and the importance of collaboration between schools, universities and companies.
The Subcontracting Trade Fair 2022 partner for Alihankinta 2022 will be Wärtsilä Finland Oy. Wärtsilä is a leading international supplier of innovative technologies and life cycle solutions in the marine and energy markets. In 2021, Wärtsilä's turnover was over EUR 4.8 billion.
Wärtsilä's Vesa Riihimäki, Ensto's Marjo Miettinen and Engineering Academy's Peer Haataja as theme partners
As in previous years, Alihankinta has assigned three esteemed industry experts as theme partners. The theme partner from Wärtsilä, the main partner of the fair, is Vesa Riihimäki, President in charge of production, power plants and procurement, who also leads the Sustainable Technology Hub project. The second theme partner is Chairman of the Board at Ensto, Marjo Miettinen. The third theme partner is Peer Haataja, CEO of Tampereen Teollisuusoppilaitos Oy and head of the new Engineering Academy.
Subcontracting Trade Fair Alihankinta presents the metal, electronics, plastics and rubber industries, industrial ICT solutions, as well as design and consulting within these fields. During normal years, the event has attracted over a thousand exhibitors from twenty countries and about 18,000 trade fair visitors. The fair is organized by Tampere Trade Fairs Group in collaboration with Technology Industries of Finland, Rubber Manufacturers' Association of Finland RMAF, Finnish Association of Purchasing and Logistics LOGY, and Finnish Plastics Industries Federation FIPIF. The fair has taken place in Tampere since 1988.

Jordan / Sudan – (ARAB NEWSWIRE) -- After surviving a stressful journey being smuggled into Jordan, the confiscated Nile crocodile “Mahzooz” —meaning “Lucky” in Arabic— was rescued from the exotic pet trade in close collaboration between the Princess Alia Foundation / Al-Ma’wa for Nature & Wildlife, and the CITES management authority (The Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature - RSCN), and is currently in the process of making it back home where it belongs —the wild.
The initial confiscation process was due to close cooperation between the CITES Management Authority in Jordan (RSCN) and the Environmental Police Department, after officers noticed an advertisement for trading a smuggled crocodile while monitoring the Social Media channels.
The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) in cooperation with Al-Ma’wa for Nature & Wildlife managed by Princess Alia Foundation and Four Paws , and the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN) in Jordan, and with the Sudanese Wildlife Conservation General Administration in Sudan, are working together to transport, rehabilitate and release the crocodile which could take up to two weeks starting today.in Al-Dinder Biosphere Reserve in Sudan at the Crocodiles Lake there. This site is considered within the natural habitat for the Nile crocodile.
“The animals caught in pet trade are not the only ones who suffer; the concerned authorities do too as they end up covering costs they often cannot afford.” Elsayed Mohamed, the Regional Director at IFAW continues, “especially with the lack of resources and capacity, most animals either end up euthanized or trapped in captivity for the rest of their lives. It is truly tragic.”
IFAW however insists on giving this crocodile a different ending to it’s story and is using it to send a louder message; stop the demand for exotic pet ownership. According to Elsayed, this crocodile is “lucky“, as many of the confiscated animals don’t make it this far especially since many tend to fall in the wrong hands of owners who have no idea how to take care of them, or considered “not worth the trouble or cost” for concerned authorities, as the release of wild animals is generally a great challenge scientifically and economically. Fortunately, crocodile genes often do not represent a challenge when releasing them back into the wild—contrary to many other wild animals.
All partners in this translocation process have arranged the needed permits, zoological and health tests and veterinary certificates to export the crocodile using a suitable cage with cargo from Jordan’s Queen Alia Airport, to Sudan. Once the crocodile arrives in Sudan, the Sudanese Wildlife Conservation General Administration will transfer the crocodile to a suitable shelter, in order to rehabilitate it and carry out any necessary checks on the animal to confirm its readiness for the release.
The release site has been determined by all partners mentioned in order to ensure that it is far away from urban areas and human settlements thereby ensuring the safety of human and avoiding human-wildlife conflict in the long run.

LONDON, October 31st, 2021 -- (ARAB NEWSWIRE) -- The Citizenship by Investment (CBI) Programme is an instrumental tool transforming the socio-economic landscape of the Commonwealth of Dominica. This is according to the island’s Minister of Tourism, International Transport and Maritime Initiatives, Hon. Denise Charles, who attributes the nation’s thriving tourism industry to the CBI Programme and welcomes investors from Asia and the Middle East to Dominica.
As the world rapidly changes, invaluable and intangible resources like health, safety and security have become non-negotiable for business people and their families with weak passports. Dominica, nestled in the beautiful eastern Caribbean, prides itself as a nature-prioritising destination in which one can feel safe. Aside from a second home, Dominica’s CBI grants new citizens full living, studying and working rights, business expansion opportunities, and visa-free and visa-on-arrival travel to over 140 destinations.
Becoming a citizen is not just advantageous for personal security and travel, Minister Charles said, it allows one to help build a more modern, dynamic Dominica for all its citizens and residents. “I want to encourage anyone who is seeking a second citizenship to consider Dominica and be a part of something great and transformative,” she added.
“Now, as a nation, we are undertaking the single most transformative project in our history under the CBI Programme: the construction of an international airport,” said Minister Charles. The airport, scheduled for completion in 2025, will “serve as a major gateway to key countries like the United Arab Emirates, the UK, China, other parts of Asia and Africa for trade and travel.”
Through the CBI Programme, Dominica has expanded its tourism product to include luxury eco-friendly accommodations like the recently opened 5-star Kempinski resort. The initiative has funded the expansion of globally recognised boutique hotels like the Secret Bay Residences, which recently celebrated its 100th ROI payment to its CBI clientele, and rebuilt the famous Jungle Bay resort, damaged by tropical storm Erica. Other projects accepting investments through CBI include the Hilton Tranquility Beach resort, the Marriott Anichi Resort and the Sanctuary Rainforest Eco Resort & Spa.
Vetted applicants to Dominica’s CBI Programme can choose between investing in one of these trusted hotel brands for return on investment or contributing to the government fund. The second option supports youth educational advancement, climate-resilient housing projects, sustainable job certation and economic growth.

After a long wait, Finland’s leading industrial fair will be held on 21.-23. September 2021 at the Tampere Exhibition and Sports Centre. In three days, the Subcontracting Trade Fair and AlihankintaHEAT will offer visitors a unique overview of the industry’s prospects and the future of the industry, with more than 900 exhibitors. The theme of the trade fair to be held safety first is Business from Data.
The Asta fair for construction and housing held at the beginning of September successfully opened the Tampere Trade Fairs group after a long pandemic break. The group’s largest trade fair event is currently being built at the Tampere Exhibition and Sports Centre health safety first.
- Subcontracting Trade Fair has brought together industry companies and experts in good and more challenging times for 33 years. Hopefully, the pioneer role as a courageous leader will also work now that society needs to be opened up safely to events as well. There are more than 900 exhibitors involved, so the industrial crowd is really seen under the same roof at the end of a long wait. After the past virtual year, it is clear that there is a strong need for industry players to meet their customers and partners face to face. Hopefully, event visitors will also be allowed to go to the fair to do business, and companies’ teleworking and travel instructions would not become an obstacle. Fortunately, restrictions are finally being eased, so there is still hope to get the professionals on the go. We definitely emphasize health safety and the most important guideline is to come to the fair in good health, says the event’s Project Manager, Marketing and Communications Director Tanja Järvensivu of Tampere Trade Fairs.
Business from Data - main partner Business Tampere
The theme of the Subcontracting Fair and AlihankintaHEAT 2021 is Business from Data, through which is wanted to highlight the importance of data in the future industry. Intelligent industry, security and productivity are highlighted as perspectives. The theme is strongly reflected in the program of the fair. On the opening day, the Finnish Association of Purchasing and Logistics LOGY will traditionally award the Main Supplier of the Year and the Subcontractor of the Year.

TOKYO, JAPAN -- (Arab Newswire) -- The past couple of years have witnessed a disturbing trend in data security in Japan — in a word, downwards.
In December of 2020, Japanese online marketing giant Rakuten announced that data for nearly 1.5 million customers had been exposed to access from outside of Japan.
LINE, one of the most popular messaging systems in Japan, is owned by a company in South Korea — a country increasingly hostile to Japan. Earlier in 2021, it was revealed that LINE had made Japanese users’ information available to technicians in the People’s Republic of China, one of the world’s most notorious sponsors of cyber warfare. TikTok has been accused of spying on users for the Chinese government.
Experts inside of Japan are increasingly warning of Japan’s vulnerability to cyberattacks. And China’s dominance of 5G network technology has rattled Japan and other democratic allies over the security of all internet traffic.
Shohei Ohsawa, founder and CEO of Daisy, Inc. and author of AI救国論 (“AI Kyukokuron” or “AI National Salvation Theory,” Shinsho Publishing, 2019, in Japanese), is out to change Japan’s reliance on foreign-owned apps and platforms by developing a secure, blockchain-based social networking service (SNS) inside of Japan.
This new social media platform, called Hoshu SNS, is in beta testing now with a pool of approximately 550 users, and is slated for a full-on start in September of 2021.
“We are on target to meet the September launch goal,” Ohsawa tells JAPAN Forward in a recent interview.“ I am confident that our unbiased SNS will be scaled up and ready to go on time.”
A Network Rooted in Fact and Freedom
The Hoshu SNS platform, using Ledge AI, will eventually be available in 22 languages for use around the globe.
Ohsawa’s decision to launch a Japan-based SNS is sure to resonate with users worldwide, as Japan is hardly the only country to experience cyberattacks by China and other anti-democratic nations. Data security is increasingly a problem for large corporations and individuals from India to Australia, Nigeria to the United Kingdom.
Ohsawa describes the meaning of his platform’s name as “unbiased,” but hoshu also means “conservative” in Japanese. Ohsawa’s choice will likely also reassure many who see not only China, but also Silicon Valley, as a threat to free expression and the free exchange of ideas.
“Twitter often simply erases information it decides cannot be disseminated,” Ohsawa says. “Google and Facebook have strong China tie-ins. When Donald Trump won the American presidency in 2016, I thought he would be able to improve the ability of ordinary Americans to speak out. Instead, major tech companies throttled inconvenient truths even more tightly. The future of democracy hinges on whether we can rein in big tech and win the day for free speech.”
Ohsawa’s Hoshu SNS is thus not a political statement so much as a declaration of principles. “I asked myself, what is conservatism,” Ohsawa says. “It came down to facts (jijitsu) and freedom (jiyu). Japan needs to be stronger in defending these ideals, which is why I made this SNS a specifically Japanese, conservative platform. If Japan can stay strong against the global encroachment by dictatorships and big tech on freedom and truth, then there is hope for everyone.”
Fighting Online Mobs with Pure Democracy
Ohsawa’s expertise in AI, machine learning, and computer science informs his approach to entrepreneurism. A former project associate professor at the University of Tokyo, Ohsawa holds a PhD in engineering from the same university, as well as an undergraduate degree from the famous tech-incubator, University of Tsukuba. A couple of online controversies in which he was involved sharpened his thinking about how the internet acts as a force multiplier, enabling bad-faith actors to overwhelm reasoned discourse and shut down anyone who disagrees with the orthodoxy of online leftists and big tech.
“The fundamental problem with the internet is the online identity crisis, in which one person is not counted as one person,” Ohsawa says. “Using its distributed networks and incentive mechanisms, Daisy ensures that each user has only one voice. Roughly speaking, users who want multiple accounts on Daisy will have to pay extra for them, and we then use that money to ensure that the platform keeps massed pressure from being used against individuals. This preserves online freedom and makes the internet a site of pure democracy, with each person getting, as it were, just one vote, one voice.”
China deploys the so-called “50-Cent Army” of low-rent hackers to swarm anyone online who criticizes the Chinese Communist Party, and Twitter bots proliferate to carry out similar massive onslaughts against unpopular voices online. Meanwhile, Ohsawa’s test platform eliminates those biases to keep SNS functioning as a democratic environment.
“We need to differentiate between real and virtual,” Ohsawa tells me. “If we can solve this problem, then pure democracy has a chance.”
Building Slowly, but Steadily and Deliberately
“We aim to be the SNS company for all conservatives,” Ohsawa says, “in Japan and around the world. Everyone who values facts and freedom is welcome.”
Ohsawa is looking to build up his network in a dedicated fashion, counting on the quality of Daisy’s network architecture and the company’s commitment to free speech to bring in new users steadily over time.
There is another ace up Ohsawa’s sleeve, however, and one that could make Daisy a force to be reckoned with much earlier than expected. Ohsawa has already developed computer simulations using AI that are adept at predicting stock market fluctuations, and he is confident that this technology can be scaled out to predict political trends and voter reactions, as well. Instead of reacting to political headwinds, as Trump and many other foes of big tech worldwide have done, Daisy has the potential to get out in front of change and set the agenda more proactively.
“One of the problems with journalism is that reporters get hate messages from leftists, and this makes the reporters fearful of reporting the truth,” Ohsawa relates. “This leads to bashing and pile-ons on the internet.”
If Ohsawa’s unbiased SNS platform builds up its base and succeeds in modeling political trends, then it could help stymie the rush of fake news and Twitter mobs which keep left-wing operations in business. Someday, soon, leveling the playing field and supporting true free speech could become Japan’s most valuable export.
About Daisy, Inc
Daisy, Inc. is a venture company that was launched in March of 2018 as a project of the Matsuo Laboratory of the University of Tokyo, represented by shareholders Representative Director Ohsawa, Director Takenaka, Technical Adviser Matsuo.
Daisy first began as an official project within the laboratory, before expanding to what it is today. The reward system algorithm created by Ohsawa, “Neuron as an Agent” [naaa] (otherwise known as NaaA) was announced by the Matsuo Laboratory and was accepted to ICLR 2018 (International Conference of Artificial Intelligence) in Canada as a workshop*.
At the global series of events called as World Cyber Security Summit, you will have heard just how significant cybercrime and cyberattacks are, and know that they can have just as significant an impact in the Middle East as any other country.
Recently the head of UAE Government Cyber Security told CNBC that the UAE had seen a 250 per cent increase in cyberattacks in 2020, while data breaches in Middle Eastern countries cost an average of US$ 6 million per incident, according to an independent report commissioned by IBM Security.
We can separate cyberattacks into two broad categories: those undertaken for pure financial gain and those driven by political motivations. However, regardless of the motive, the impact on businesses can be the same: downtime, data loss and digital damage.
The digital transformation the region has gone through in the last year is extraordinary. Prior to COVID-19, only ten per cent of workers in the UAE reported working from home one to two days per week, compared to a global average of 62 per cent, according to a 2019 survey by International Workplace Group. This means that the trend to transition to the cloud was accelerated, and the network perimeter has truly dissolved.
Data-Centric SASE
To help regional CISOs combat the evolving threat landscape, Forcepoint is focusing on two fronts – cloud security and data protection. Forcepoint’s suite of data-centric SASE (Secure Access Service Edge) solutions allow organizations moving to the cloud and considering SASE to take these steps in confidence.
Most Middle Eastern government entities and enterprises do have cybersecurity strategies to safeguard national critical information infrastructure, protect critical citizen data, and respond to and recover from cyber-attacks and establish safe and secure cyberspace. Enterprises are evolving, moving steadily to the cloud, and adopting new security architectures such as SASE and Zero Trust.
But given the ever-evolving threat landscape and the increase in attack surface posed by digital transformation and remote working, more can still be done. Attacks such as Sunburst/Solarigate really shine a light on the interconnected nature of government and enterprises, and require business leaders to take a critical look at supply chain networks.
Where to start? Eight Kick-Off Questions
So where to start when overhauling cybersecurity? In my view, government entities and enterprises should look for solutions that can deliver multiple security services to where employees are working today, while making it easy to scale, manage and control costs. Consider the following eight questions as you evaluate your current system and any future suppliers:
The Unbound Enterprise
Because of the cloud and the pandemic, an enterprise’s highly distributed employees are working in unmanaged home networks and directly connecting to cloud services with IP addresses they didn’t receive from corporate IT. Forcepoint calls this the 'unbound enterprise' – and it offers huge advantages as well as a cybersecurity challenge!
Cloud services can reduce costs, remote working can drive innovation and new cybersecurity technologies can anticipate incidents before they happen, becoming less intrusive and allowing employees to get on with their jobs without technology blockers.
To secure this unbound enterprise, security teams should put data and the centre of their cybersecurity strategies and look to SASE with Zero Trust to provide a new foundation for both empowering and securing their remote workforces.

Catch some of the top global cyber security experts speak at the Qatar edition of the World Cyber Security Summit which is officially powered by Forcepoint taking place on 7 July 2021.
The internet has connected us to individuals all over the world in ways that were impossible a decade ago; eliminating communication barriers and encouraging collaboration in many aspects of our personal and professional lives. Cyberspace has evolved into a vibrant and vital component of our society, fuelling economic growth and creativity while improving our lives in numerous ways — and it will continue to expand and provide us with even more opportunities in the future.
Qatar is stepping up its cyber security efforts while also collaborating with counterparts around the world to ensure open and secure cyberspace. The country has few things to be considered on priority:
In 2013, the Qatari Prime Minister established the National Cyber Security Committee to address the cyber agenda at the national level and to ensure that all public and private entities are adopting the appropriate cyber agenda.
While the government lead the efforts to protect government systems and networks, cyber security must be a shared responsibility of the government, companies, institutions, and individuals to succeed, and stakeholder cooperation is critical.
“As new and complex global cyber security challenges emerge, Qatar is well-positioned to be proactive in strengthening the country's cyber preparation and resilience, as well as protecting cyberspace for future generations. They will continue to harness the potential of information and communications technology to guarantee a successful future for all of their people, as envisioned in the Qatar National Vision 2030,” stated Mithun Shetty, CEO of Trescon.

Chicago, IL – (Arab Newswire) -- Silk Road Rising (Co-Executive Artistic Directors Malik Gillani and Jamil Khoury) is proud to announce that the original English-language version of their animated short film “The Four Hijabs” was dubbed into Arabic in Amman, Jordan and Damascus, Syria. The company has also released two companion video interviews, one in English and one in Arabic, featuring the film’s co-writer Dr. Manal Hamzeh.
Synopsis of The Four Hijabs
Released in 2016, The Four Hijabs (12min 6sec) is an animated short film that explores the multiple meanings of four hijabs mentioned in 16 Qur’anic verses and interprets them through Arab-Muslim feminist lenses:
⚬ the visual hijab (the modest dress required of both Muslim men and women)
⚬ the spatial hijab (the separator between private and public spaces)
⚬ the ethical hijab (the ethical values/practices required of all Muslims)
⚬ the spiritual hijab (the barrier that inhibits deep spiritual growth and new knowledge)
The Four Hijabs is an entertaining and accessible opportunity to engage with the complex ideas surrounding the hijab.
Inspired by ideas in Dr. Manal Hamzeh’s book Pedagogies of DeVeiling: Muslim Girls and the Hijab Discourse (Information Age Publishing, 2012) and adapted into a screenplay by Hamzeh and Jamil Khoury, The Four Hijabs builds upon the groundbreaking work of the late Moroccan feminist writer and sociologist Fatima Mernissi.
Statement by Dr. Manal Hamzeh, Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies and Gender & Sexuality Studies at New Mexico State University
In the summer of 2017, one year after the launch of our animated short film The Four Hijabs, my friend Samar Dudin introduced me to the owner of one of the most reputable dubbing companies in the Arab world, located in Amman, Jordan. Even before viewing The Four Hijabs in its entirety, he agreed to produce an Arabic dubbed version. I handed him the Arabic script assuming we would need to workshop it with actors before beginning the recording process. To my astonishment, within 48 hours, he asked me to visit him at the studio so that I could review the final dubbed version!
In that short window of time, the producer hired the actors and finished the actual dubbing. Adding to the complexity of it all, the actors he selected were all Syrians living in Syria. They literally emailed in their audio recordings shortly after listening to the film in English. Their cadence and tonality adhered to that of the American actors. All of this was done against the backdrop of a horrific war in Syria. Thus, the actors requested anonymity to avoid any risk of retaliation for participating in such an overtly anti-patriarchal project.
The process of dubbing The Four Hijabs into Arabic is an example of critical feminist translation. It adds another layer of resistance, refusal, and disobedience to both the English language version and the Arabic subtitled version. Moreover, the Arabic dubbed version gives The Four Hijabs another chance to speak back to oppressive patriarchal movements and regimes in Arab and Muslim-majority contexts. It also engages a substantial Arabic-speaking audience and opens the possibility of questioning and unlearning the dominant gendering discourse of the hijab.
It is worth noting that the Arabic translation intentionally used classical Arabic to reach a wider Arabic speaking audience. Simultaneously, the actors' very subtle Shami (Levantine) accent invites warmth and intimate engagement with the script, mostly for Arabs who speak and are close to this accent: Syrians, Jordanians, Palestinians, and Lebanese.
Along with the previously available version of The Four Hijabs subtitled in classical Arabic, it is our hope that this dubbed version will reach a broader Arabic speaking audience and generate transnational conversation and inquiry.
Statement by Jamil Khoury, Co-Founder and Co-Executive Artistic Director of Silk Road Rising
Having co-written the original English language version of The Four Hijabs with Dr. Manal Hamzeh, I take great pride in the fact we created an animated short that’s been described as “compelling,” “informative,” “thought-provoking,” and “eye-opening.” But the experience of hearing the piece in Arabic goes beyond interesting food for thought. Quite frankly, it feels revolutionary and subversive, dangerous even.
Listening to The Four Hijabs in English, I’m always struck by the critical questions the film poses, the new perspectives it dramatizes, and its relevance to conversations occurring within Christianity, Judaism, and Hinduism. But when I listen to it in Arabic, the stakes are even greater. For in addition to doing important pedagogical and feminist work, it challenges gender injustice more stridently and unapologetically. It throws down the gauntlet in a hotly contested intra-Muslim debate. The patriarchs are being taken to the mat, and it is both scary and exhilarating.

Video Interviews with Dr. Manal Hamzeh
On October 12, 2019, Silk Road Rising sat down with Dr. Manal Hamzeh to discuss questions surrounding The Four Hijabs and to provide her a forum for contextualizing her academic and activist work. The videos below, one in English and one in Arabic, address different but related aspects of Hamzeh's analyses and decades-long feminist journey. It was an opportunity for Hamzeh to make her work accessible to both English-speaking and Arabic-speaking audiences.
